Yes, Virginia, there is a Great Pumpkin!
I sketched this idea 3 years ago and I finally got around to finishing it. I adore Halloween in all it's traditions, new traditions, folklore and of course the spooky movies, costumes and candy and don't forget The Great Pumpkin. Even though we do not get a lot of trick or treaters, we still go all out. Why not! We only get to do this once a year. Happy Halloween!

Lionheart
©Holly DeWolf- I am a lionheart |
"Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the little voice at the end of the day that says I'll try again tomorrow." -Mary Anne Radmacher
They say you can't kill the spirit of the lionhearted and I believe it. It's an unshakable stubbornness to not give in to the craziness that life throws at us. Courage is doing what we must do even if we're afraid to. Sometimes the act of courage is a small step like sharing an idea or using the word no. It can also be the courage to be who you are in a world that wants to change you. Having a kind heart in a harsh world is strength but being kind to yourself is the bravest gesture we can do for ourselves even on the worst of days.
"People are made of flesh and blood and a miracle fiber called courage." -Mignon McLaughlin

I've had that dream a 1000 times
If you can't stop dreaming about it, don't stop working for it. Ever.
We dream about many things- money, success, true love and big happiness. Those are great. I also dream of purpose. This purpose includes endless ideas, things to create and work that serves a greater cause than self-interest or to be in a portfolio.
Narrative inspired by the song A 1000 times by Hamilton Leithauser + Rostom.

He loves the night life!

"What a nice night for an evening." - Steven Wright
Today is the first day of Autumn and it's still not sweater weather yet. I'm hoping this warm stretch will stay like this all the way to Halloween. 'Til then, I'm going to enjoy the night life with apple cider while wearing sandals for a little while longer.

Snail Mail
Snail Mail ©Holly DeWolf |
So here in Canada we recently had a mail strike scare. The latest news: Canada Post has backtracked on its threat to lock out its workers and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers says it will not issue a strike notice. That's a relief!
I love snail mail! Freelancers like myself rely on the mail system quite a lot especially when it comes to pay cheques and royalty cheques not to mention supplies that I cannot find here in New Brunswick. Speaking of which, it's probably time to make a much needed art supply order.

Hot Wheels!
After a very busy stretch, it's nice to settle back down to some work. The month of May is like Christmas here. Between the birthdays and Mother's Day, it is just packed. And expensive! Holy smokes. I'll be happy to not have to step into stores or the mall for awhile. And that's okay, because I have enough to keep me busy.
So this roller derby girl was done just in time to kick off the nice weather. I sold my roller skates a while back and now I'm regretting it. Days like today I'd love to be on them but I'll settle with getting a bike instead.
It's time to say goodbye to May and say hello to June! It's going to be busy but the good kind of busy. ~Holly

Hidden Dragon
Being a hidden dragon, a diamond in the rough, or a hidden gem while flying under the radar means you are on the verge of greatness. Honing your skills and paying attention to the important work often comes with being unappreciated, for now. Do the work, build your skill and you will become a commodity, a hard to find absent and rare talent. Hidden dragons are a lucky find indeed.
